Overview
Retoco came to us with a clear mission: build a habit tracker that people would actually stick with. Most habit apps feel clinical or overwhelming — Retoco wanted something that felt personal, motivating, and genuinely easy to use every single day.
Problem
Early user testing of the concept revealed a common pattern: users would engage for a few days, then drop off. The interface lacked the emotional feedback loops and visual clarity needed to sustain daily use. Streaks felt arbitrary, and progress was hard to visualize at a glance.
Solution
We redesigned the entire user experience around momentum and simplicity. A calm, focused home screen shows only what matters for today. Progress rings, streak animations, and personalized check-in flows reward consistency without overwhelming the user. The design system used warm, approachable tones to make the experience feel encouraging rather than transactional.
Process
We ran a competitive audit across the top habit and wellness apps, identified key retention patterns, and mapped Retoco's ideal user journey. Wireframes were tested with a small group of target users before moving into high-fidelity UI design and prototyping in Figma.
Outcome
Post-launch data showed a significant improvement in Day 7 and Day 30 retention compared to the previous version. Users praised the clean interface and the way the app made building habits feel achievable rather than burdensome.
